We are very proud to announce that Rocky Voglio was chosen for a
very Prestigious Award. The Florida Main Street Secretary of State Award for Best Business of the Year for 2009 and he also received a Merit Award for best supporter of a local Main Street Program for 2009. Congratulations, to you Rocky, for all you do for our Community Here are just a few of the reasons he won these two Awards.
Rocky Voglio is owner and operator of Newberry’s Backyard Bar B Que. He has been in Newberry for 12 years and now has two locations in Newberry. Rocky has given back to this community ten fold. Here are a few of his accomplishments
For City of Newberry:
Every year in May he has an Anniversary Block Party to thank everyone for coming to
Newberry and Backyard BBQ. He has free food, music and fun activities for the kids. Carriage rides for the family. In the winter he has Snow Day for the kids. Rocky puts on the biggest fireworks show in our area on Labor Day at Easton Newberry Sports complex in Newberry. It has gotten so big; it brings in people from around our community. The Recreation and Parks of Newberry also holds Baseball and Softball tournaments at the Complex during this time and brings in even more people to Newberry.
For Alachua County Public Schools:
Newberry has three schools within one mile of Downtown. Elementary, Middle and High School, Rocky helps them all.. He donated 2 smart boards to the Middle School. He donated money to the Elementary School for Smart boards. He gave the High School Football Team, who played in the State title game 2008, a free Awards Dinner for all Players and Coaches. He sponsors High School Sports events each year. He sponsors “Paw Awards” to Elementary School to encourage children to do well in school.
He also hires local Kids from High School to work at Backyard BBQ.
For Newberry Recreation and Parks:
Rocky sponsors Little League and Adult League programs and other programs in the Recreation Department. The new Archery Center at the Sport Complex had a ground breaking ceremony last year and Rocky donated all of the food that was catered, also at the Grand opening of the Easton Newberry Archery Center.
For American Cancer Relay for Life in Newberry:
He has sponsored Survivors dinner for two of the three years it has been held in Newberry
He has “Purple Night “at Backyard BBQ. All Employees dress in purple and invite all their customers to attend the Relay. (See attachment news media for this.)
For Newberry Jonesville Chamber of Commerce:
Rocky sponsors Board meeting lunches and sometimes member meeting lunches.
He is a very active board member contributing to the business community. He helps other restaurants in Newberry with information and tips, and also helps promote other types of business in Newberry.
And for Newberry Main Street Organization:
With the designation of Newberry Main Street in 2006, Rocky has become a member and promoted and donated funds to help our program. Proceeds from his Fireworks show he gave to Newberry Main Street Program in 2007 and 2008. He has been very supportive of Main Street. He donates free food to us for meetings and helps recruit new members. He is very supportive of the downtown business and promotes them with information about those businesses, in his business. Rocky is an asset to our community and to Main Street
He has won numerous awards for Business of the year from Newberry Jonesville Chamber to Best BBQ in Alachua County. He has won numerous Community Service awards from many organizations. Rocky is a very good business person and very successful. He has said numerous times, “Newberry and its residents helped me get to where I am so I love to give back to Newberry and the community.”

Our Project : Renovation of the Kincaid building

The only remaining wooden commercial building of historic interest in town is this structure built in 1880 by Stringfellow and Williams and located originally in Jonesville, five miles east of Newberry. It was moved to its present site around the turn of the century by Thomas Kincaid, who opened a general store. For More Information on Historic Newberry, FL
